Is there a new version of office on the horizon?

Steve

I have a client that we want to purchase a site license. The software
assurance is quite high so I can't see them spending 160.00 per license - in
case MS decides to put out a new office suite inside of 24 months. After 24
months - the software assurance has no value.

Can anyone tell me what plans MS has for a new office suite and when? It
would be helpful to know.

Thanks!

This is what Roz Ho said at the MacWorld keynote:

"I'm happy to say that the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit is on track to
deliver Universal Binaries of Office and Messenger, and we've made a lot of
progress already. We've worked closely together with Apple's Engineering
team to make sure that we have the tools we need to deliver great new
versions of Office for mac, but in the meantime we've also worked together
to make sure that current versions of Office run well in Rosetta. Our
dedication to the platform and to you our customers, is evidenced by our
ongoing product update and today is no exception. We'll be shipping several
updates to our suites very soon to satisfy user requests and to provide
additional support for current Apple technologies.

Does this mean that if I bought one of the new Intel-based Macs today, I
couldn't run Entourage (or Office as a whole) on it?

No, you can still run most older, non-universal apps on the Intel-based Macs
using the Rosetta technology (similar to Classic mode). They won't run
native, but they will run.

According to reports I have seen Office runs just fine under Rossetta on
MacIntels. VPC doesn't and never will. There is a press release at the MS
web site that says they are investigating what they need to do to make VPC
work under Intel.
