Entourage uses Groups for the same purpose. If you can manage to assign a
category (e.g. of the same name) to every member of a distribution list (I
realize Outlook does not make that easy to do), then in Entourage filter for
that category (set the little popups in top right to <Category is>
<Whatever>. Select all, click "Add Group" button, and there's your
distribution list again as a Group. In future when you add new contacts to
the list in Outlook you'll have to add them to the group also in Entourage.
Groups doesn't look like a bad NEW feature except I think MS is missing the
boat by not having it recognize existing Distribution Lists that already
exist on the server in someone¹s account, and the ability to have a Group
saved as a Distribution List on the server. What is a Group? It is much the
same as a Distribution List.
MS definition of Group: group
A list of e-mail addresses that you create in Microsoft Entourage for the
purpose of sending one message to the entire list, instead of addressing
identical messages individually to the people on the list.
So say I am one of those people who happens to use OWA, Windows Outlook, and
Mac Outlook 2001 depending on where I am. And I used Distribution Lists a
lot. No problem, I can do it. Time to switch to Entourage, Bummer! Can¹t use
my existing Distribution Lists. Ok, I need to recreate them as Groups and I
need some new ones too, BUMMER again, my new Groups don¹t save as
distribution lists on the server so that they are available when using
Windows Outlook or OWA! How about I e-mail my Distribution List to myself,
open it when using Entrourage and convert that to a Group, Bummer! Entourage
doesn¹t know what in the heck to do with that kind of a message and doesn¹t
download any of the addresses with it. Even if I could copy a list of
addresses from a text file, Entourage ³Add Group² window does not allow me
to paste in multiple addresses at once.
I have one user here who says he needs his Distribution Lists and if he
can¹t get at them from Entourage, he doesn¹t want to/won¹t switch to
Entourage. He doesn¹t have the TIME to spend to go in and add Categories to
recreate Groups.
Sorry, but we are not satisfied with this at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
