Is there any way to import mail from an Outlook PST file?

I'm switching to MAC, went out and bought a copy of office and am running
Entourage. I'd like to suck in the address book (which I can export as a
CSV) and my email that I want to save from my Windows box.

I'm running outlook 2000 but have a copy of Office 2003 that I never used
and could install that if that would help.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the lighter side... :)

For contacts, export them from Outlook as CSV. In Entourage, File -->
Import, choose "From a text file" and "tab or comma-delimited file" --
then import your file. Entourage will ask you to map the fields, which
is easily done manually if you only need to do it once. If you are
doing a bunch of imports I suggest making a one-line column header in
Excel with field names and copying it to the first line of your text
file.

For mail: We use Emailchemy (www.weirdkid.com) for mail conversions.
It's inexpensive and works very well. Unfortunately it does not
directly support Outlook PST files, but...

Use Outlook Express, any version, to import the email messages from
Outlook, and then use Emailchemy to convert your Outlook Express
mailboxes. This requires that you have the email you want to export in
your base-level Inbox in Outlook and that Outlook is running when you
try to import into Outlook Express.

Yes, this really works! We once received an email from a customer that
converted over 1.2 Gigabytes (52,000 emails!) this way."

I have not tried this yet, your mileage may vary. The straight-up
simplest way to move mail from Outlook to Entourage is to use Exchange
Server, but that depends on your infrastructure -- not a good option
for home users. :)
