Is Word limited?

Are there documentation needs - and what are they - that Word will not handle
and I should begin recommending to my employer that FrameMaker is the way to
go? We are doing medium-sized manuals (but a lot of them) to be reproduced
and distributed from our own facility. If our product lines were to change
such that we begin to need to use a commercial printer, would that become a
deciding factor? We already have PageMaker in use for brochures that get
commercially printed. Do commercial printers have any problem accepting PDF
files made from Word documents?

Printers have been successfully printing my PDFs output
from Word's Print command to the Acrobat Distiller.
