iSync, Entourage and Tiger

Hi

I realise this question has been asked before, but not (as far as I can
tell) re: Tiger.

According to information on Apple's website, I should be able to now
use iSync and Entourage - but I can't work out how to do this! Has
anyone had any success?

Cheers,
Calvin

Use e2sync - <http://www.e2sync.com>

Hi. That's not really what I meant - I'd like to do this without
anything extra. The reason I say this is because the implication of a
quote by Roz Ho, the MS Mac BU general manager, on Apple's website
suggests that it should now be possible without anything extra:

Microsoft
"Office 2004 for Mac will take advantage of new Tiger technologies to
make it even easier for our customers to search, share ... or sync data
in Entourage to another supported device, the innovation in Tiger will
mean Office for Mac users will be more productive than ever."
Roz Ho, general manager of the Macintosh Business Unit, Microsoft
Corporation

(taken from www.apple.com/macosx/applications).

E2Sync was available before Tiger, and is therefore not an innovation
(and not by MS either). I had read before Tiger's release that Apple
had opened up the APIs of iSync, so it should be possible?? Please???!

You believe what you read in publicity quotes? Apple's website is about
selling and PR.

Anyhow, she said "will". Even if this were immediately effective, I think
it *might* just require that MS release an Office 2004 update for people to
take advantage of the features in an OS made *after* Office, and I'm pretty
sure one hasn't come out. You seem to be expecting magic.

It's not really a publicity post though is it - it's a statement of
fact.
Publicity when stated as opinion (eg make users more productive) - no
obviously that's normally rubbish. But publicity when stated as fact
(eg sync data in Entourage) - there is no reason to doubt it.

And, in the UK, if a product does not meet description (including minor
features on publicity) it's an offence under the sales of good act.

.... having said that I've just noticed that Apple's UK copy of the
website I quoted is an exact copy apart from that the quote from MS is
missing... I guess the US doesn't care too much for consumer
protection??!

Well, I guess you're just not as cynical as I am--and yes, it's very likely
the US has weaker consumer protection laws.

Anyhow, as I said before, it's a reference to some unspecified time in the
future, and it would need an update to enact, *you aren't going to magically
have different files and features in Office 2004 just because you changed
the OS,* though you don't appear to be the only person who thinks computers
work that way.

Complain when/if MS releases an update that doesn't make syncing data
easier, or jumps to the next version with no further updates, at which point
I will happily cheer you on.

I know this is a bit of a dead thread, but I was looking for the same
information and stumbled on this conversation.

I too would like to sync Entourage with iSync; without a 3rd party solution,
and it seems Microsoft has promised...

This excerpt quote from MWSF back in January:
http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/01/11/microsoft/index.php

"Microsoft has also made Entourage compatible with iSync, allowing users to
seamlessly sync Entourage to other devices. Erickson said that they have
done the work in Entourage to make it a client that will be recognized by
iSync. An update for Entourage will be available after Tiger is released."

It also mentions "first half of 2005" as the expected release for other
features/additions (updated MSN Messenger, etc.)

Just wondering what the eta is on this, or if at the end of the day they
will bypass Office 2004 and go straight to the next full upgrade to Office.
