Items stuck in the Deleted Items folder

After trying to empty the deleted items folder I received message "The
Action Can not be Completed. Mail Error" and Entourage was locked up.
Did a force quit and restarted. Looked in the deleted items folder and
found one message remaining with a bunch of gray lines under it. Looks
to me like I have a bad email and it has corrupted the deleted items
folder from that point down. How can I get rid of the bad stuff or is
it possible to delete the deleted items folder and create a new one?

Thanks for your help

You do not say that you tried repairing the database, which is the first
thing that seems suggested here. Did you? If so, what happened? m.

Quit Entourage. Now start it up again and at the same hold down the
Option key. Keep holding it down until the database utility dialog
appears. Use the database utility to do whatever you want to do. This
might not help but it's worth a try.

Another useful trick: when you don't know how to do something, start up
Entourage, choose Help > Entourage Help. A search on the phrase "repair
database" will give you some useful information in this case.
