Still no luck with what? "Japanese Format" for contacts is a per-contact
option for each contact: you don't need to be registered. You find the
option in in the Contact menu. Since the script turned all your contacts
into Japanese format, you could turn some off (or on again) per contact. Is
that menu item now dimmed for all contacts? That would be a bad script bug.
First quit Entourage and relaunch. Id the menu item enabled now? Can you
enable it again by running the script again, setting Japanese format to
true?

I've tried restarting Entourage, and even throwing out the entourage address
book and starting fresh. Still, whenever I try to add a contact, I am not
allowed to set the contact to Japanese format from the menu - it's simply
grayed out. Likewise, if I import a contact who is already set to Japanese,
the option under the contact menu now has "Japanese Format" checked, but it
is still grayed out (ie, I would not be able to turn off Japanese format for
that contact if choose to do so). Unless I'm just missing something, it
seems there is a bug in the program that simply disables the ability to
change the option..??

Bo, I have no problem doing it here. Even with a new, unsaved contact
(File/New/Contact), I can just click "More" button and the Contact menu is
available, including "Japanese Format" menu item. I click that and get all
the Furigana fields, Greeting Cards page, etc. immediately.$B!!(BI can also
"undo" Japanese format without problem.

It's possible that imports you're doing via Palm, etc. could be messing up
the contacts. But this should not be occurring for new contacts under any
circumstance.

I suggest you rebuild your database. (Hold down Option key at launch and
choose Rebuild.) If that doesn't help, remove Entourage Preferences and
com.microsoft.Entourage.prefs.plist files from
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ folder. It might even be necessary to use
Remove Office (in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/) -
it won't touch your data - the reinstall Office 2004 from the CD and run
Microsoft AutoUpdater 3 times to update back to 11.1.0, but this is most
unlikely.

Wow, this is fascinating. Apparently, I must OPEN the contact in question in
it's own window; if try to click on the contact menu while it's still in the
preview pane, the japanese format option is grayed out. Double click on the
contact, opening it in a separate window, and now the previously grayed out
option is miraculously available.

Correct. The Preview Pane is exactly what it says: a Preview. It's for
reading only, not writing. (Although in Mail area you can now do
Message/Edit Message, so that's not 100% true any more.) To make something
editable, generally, open it in its own window. You can't make any other
changes to contacts from the Preview Pane either.

I'm glad you tracked this down.
