journal performance

I find Outlook's journal feature extremely important, but it seems to take
forever for the journal tab of a contact to find all related items.

I assume the larger my journal file, the worse the performance. Are there
any guidelines for how large a journal should be to avoid performance issues?

Are there any plans to improve the performance of the journal feature?
