Junk mail and other problems

Entourage has suddenly begun doing a few odd things (I've been using
it for over a year without these or any other problems): 1. Junk mail
won't leave the mail list; it acquires a symbol and lighter type, but
stays in the list. 2. This also happens -- sometimes -- with deleted
mail. The type lightens, but the header stays in the list. 3. And
finally -- I'm getting duplicates of some mail but not others.

I've done a rebuild; I've used Virex; I've reinstalled the program;
I'm using an iMac with Mac OS X 10.4.10.

This does sound like database corruption except for the duplicates. You
don't mention which version of Entourage you are using. Did you do a Typical
Rebuild" or the "Advanced Rebuild?" (Note in Entourage 2004: Compact the
database (Like X's "Typical rebuild") Rebuild the database (Like X's
"Advanced Rebuild").

It's possible the database is too damaged to rebuild. I would make a
duplicate of your Identity now. Then try rebuilding using Advanced rebuild.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to export your data so you
can start over in a new database.

I am using Entourage 2004 11.3.3. I've done the rebuild database, but
I haven't compacted the database.

Duplicate first. Even though Entourage makes a backup copy during the
rebuild process, if things go badly, you could loose the original database.
Better to be safe than sorry.

FYI...

If your drive is too full or fragmented or you are having memory problems,
you could see unusual problems like you are having.
