Junk mail filter overzealous

I'm running Entourage X on OS 10.1.5.

When I receive new mail that I've sent to myself, it goes straight into the
Deleted Items folder. Actually, many messages that are not junk go into
Deleted Items, even though I've set a rule for junk mail to go into a junk
mail folder.

Any ideas?

JMF should not touch any mail from an address in your address Book. If it is
doing so, it could be time for a database rebuild.

I tried that this morning, and still most of my mail goes straight to the
trash, even most of the mail from my contacts. Any other ideas?

First, the Jink Mail filter doesn't move messages to trash (or anywhere) on
it's own. You have either got a rule set up that is moving stuff, or the
mail folder structure is corrupt. If it was a corrupt structure, a rebuild
should have fixed that.

Now, try disabling all the rules and see if it still happens. If it does,
can you tell if it's mail from a particular mailing list that gets diverted?
If so, delete the Mailing list Manager entry for that list and recreate it.

Otherwise, start re-enabling rules one at a time until you find the cuplrit,
and delete it.

Thanks for working with me on this, I'm getting frustrated!

I checked all the rules, and they are functioning properly. Everything with
a rule is going to the correct folder, but if there is no rule attached, it
is as likely to go to the trash as the inbox.

All of my mailing list messages go to specific folders, it's the regular
mail that goes to my inbox, and this is the problem.

I know that the junk mail filter SHOULDN'T send mail to the trash, but ever
since I turned it on, it is the only change I made, and now most of my mail
is going to the trash.

If the MLM or a rule is not moving it, where do you expect regular mail go?

It's got to be a rule. I suggest turning off half your rules and download.
If mail is not sent to trash, then turn on the other half. Keep doing this
until you track down the rule. Trash it and recreate.

Also see our rules section for help with examples of rules.
