Junk mail rules. . .

In Thunderbird, you can specify a word (like Viagra) and send anything with that in the re line automatically to junk. If there's a way to do that kind of thing in Entourage, I can't figure it out.

If there is, is there any resource to take me through that?

thanks so much!

Use rules (Tools>Rules). Create a new rule with suspicious words either in
the subject line or the text body, and as an action, specify "Change Status"
"Junk Mail". You can even add further actions, such as "Delete Message";
feel free to experiment.

By the way, you can also block senders and domains in Tools>Junk E-mail
Protection.

I have been trying this, but as far as I can understand it it isn't working. Going into rules, adding as criterion subject contains (words in the spam, many explicit words i won't repeat here) then change status to junk mail (I also tried just delete) but I sent messages from another email with some and all of the bad words and they all come through. I tried checking and unchecking different boxes (do not apply other rules, enable) but nothing seems to change it, and the junk mails keep a comin.

thanks

The junk mail level is set to high, I don't see anything that says it's turned on.

As far as the Rules, they are POP rules (as my email accounts are all POP, except aol which I never use) I have it set so that subject contains "iagra" for example since they use other punctuation for the V, then under Action I have Change Status to Junk mail.

I send myself emails with some or all of these words (from other aol mails as well as my own internal mails) and they all come right through, as well as other spam that has these same words.

Both the enabled and "DO not apply other rules" are currently checked, but I've tried unchecking them and not a single email has gone to junk yet.

Tried restarting program, etc. Apart from being enabled. I can't imagine what's up.

Any more ideas?

Also, do you have any other rules that might be running BEFORE your junk
mail rule? Check not only Tools -> Rules but also Tools -> Mailing List
Manager.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

If you had selected "none" it would not be turned on.

The Junk Mail Filter should be catching those types of spam messages. Look
at your Mailing List Manager rules.

It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by accident, when you are marking a
message as 'not junk'. The wording of that dialog is ambiguous to say the
least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look for MLM entries under the tools
menu) with the incorrect destination folder as the target folder. Mailing
List Manager rules run before your other rules.
