Just called Microsoft

K

kevs

I'm using my two free calls and being that none of the usually brilliant
minds here know what the heck I have I put the call in:

I have two accounts tied to my website and every day in Ent/2004 one of them
says "can't open file, it's gone!" yet the messages still come in under the
other account and vice versa.

Microsoft -- guys don't sound too smart say to:
Delete
Ent plist
Internetconf list
Internetpref.plist
Ent settingsx
Ent pref
Carbon registration.

Everything except the kitchen sink, any comments? Thanks

Can you be a bit more specific...

What do you mean by 'two accounts tied to your website', and what exactly is
the error message you are receiving and under what conditions.

The files they tell you to delete are just preferences and other support
files that will be re-made from scratch next time you start entourage, and
deleting those can often be used as a 'first stab' troubleshooting response
when there appears to be something wrong with the installation.

Ok Barry, this is really hard to explain, but I'll give it a shot.

I have a website e mail account, for this purpose I'll give it a fictitious
name: [email protected]

Now Yahoo groups decided recently, that I can't use an "info" anymore so I
made a new account called [email protected] -- solely for purpose of posting to
yahoo groups.

Everything was fine in EntourageX, and my web hoster made is so that if
anyone send e mails to [email protected] they get forwarded to [email protected]

Now with Entourage 2004 comes this weird problem:
After I click send and receive a message comes up:

error: Can't open the message file -- it's gone!
Explanation -- could not retrieve mail. Account name: [email protected].
Error - 16999

Now even though I get this annoying message, I still receive all my e amails
sent to info @shoes.com -- it's just now going into the [email protected]
account. So in that way, it's now just a nuisance message.

Even stranger, after a few days of this, the message changed saying:
error: Can't open the message file -- it's gone!
Explanation -- could not retrive mail. Account name: [email protected].

Same result, except received the messages in the [email protected] account.
(reversed situation)

I have four other e mail accounts and they are all working fine.

The guy at microsoft had no idea, and just suggested I delete everyting and
the kithen sink. I'm not going to do it -- I feel instinctively it wont
help.

Unless you or anyone else here can figure it out. I'm going to delete the
kevs@shoes .com account and just not have 2 e mails accounts tied to my
website.

I tried deleting the account and re-adding it, but that did not work.

This still has me baffled.

When you say a 'website email account', is it webmail that is accessed
through a web interface, or just an ordinary POP or IMAP account that
happens to have the address published through a web site?

If the former, how are you accessing it in Entourage?
Now Yahoo groups decided recently, that I can't use an "info" anymore so I

OK, did you define the account as POP or IMAP?

OK, you're using the 'info' account here, yes? Again, I need to know is this
POP or IMAP?

16999 messages can indicate corruption on the mail server. See here for more
info:

If your ISP is doing a forwarding service, that would be the case, even if
the info address mailbox is corrupted, the messages would still be forwarded
to shoes before they hit the info mailbox.

Barry:

All my e mail accounts are pop accounts (still don't know what others even
mean)

So you would suggest getting rid of the second e mail account attached to my
url? That seems to be the problem, although it was not a problem in
Entourage X.

You don't necessarily need to get rid of the account, just get your isp/host
to delete the mailbox as it appears to be corrupt. First mail that comes in
to that address (or first time you check mail) the mailbox will be
re-created, hopefully free from corruption.

Interesting. I will ask them. They will probably not agree with you. I
think they well tell me all they are doing is forwarding mail. They will
say it's a software issue. And to be honest, this started minute I installed
2004.
