Keeping certain categories off of shared calendars

Hi folks- I'm a reluctant new user of Entourage (formerly used iCal) due to
company switching to an Exchange Server.

I am working with sharing calendars among my group at work but I am not sure
I'm doing it right. Please help me spot any flaws in my thinking/workflow

Right now I use one calendar, the one on my exchange server. I use
different categories (basically work and home) wheras with ical I used to
use different calendars. With ical I could just choose to share my work
calendar. With Entourage I have to share the whole calendar which puts my
home calendar out there for my coworkers.

I know that I can set individual appointments as private but that's a hassle
each time compared with, say, being able to set an entire category private.

How do I do this? Or is setting the home events private one by one the only
way? I know that I could put my home calendar just on my computer, but then
is there any way to view the two (home and work) together at the same time
like in iCal? I know that Outlook has some side-by-side views but I'm not
sure we do in Entourage.

Thanks- I'm sure this has been asked before and I tried to search but had no
luck.

Why not use the "Calendar [On My Computer]" for all your personal stuff?

Yeah, that's one option but then is there a way to view the "on my computer"
calendar simultaneously with the "exchange server" one? In other words, I
don't want to flip between 2 calendars to determine availability. My work
schedule is not a set 9-5 kind of thing so home events and work events often
exist right next to each other.

That's one of the things I LOVE about iCal- that I can turn calendars on and
off and view as many or as few as I want at any time. I'd hope that this
functionality is built in to Entourage but I'm not sure.

Hi Joe!

That functionality is not built into Entourage but it's a very requested
feature. I suggest you let Microsoft know you want this functionality by
using the Send Feedback mechanism under the Help menu of any Office
application.

You've already stated the available options:

1. Use one calendar and mark private events as private or
2. Keep private events on your local calendar and not on Exchange.

Personally, I use my Exchange calendar for everything, including
personal events. I am of the mindset that I want everything in one place
that I trust to be backed up and available to me wherever I connect. Are
all your private events so private that you don't want them viewable? Of
course, I don't create events for interviews with other companies or
dinner with the boss' daughter but I don't really care if people know I
have a dental appointment or that I'm attending a Star Trek convention
this weekend. (Well, I might mark that as private.)
