Keyboard in Word2002

When typing in Word, sometimes I have to press a key
twice before the chosen symbol/letter appears on screen!
Why is this and how can I correct it? A new computer and
keyboard (less than three weeks old. TIA

All keys or only certain ones such as the apostrophe? If the latter, it may
be that you have an international keyboard layout selected.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Regional Options (or Keyboard) and change
the Input Locale, I think.
