Keypad function turns on and off in Outlook (email)

Mike

I have an HP Omnibook 510 and some time ago this issue
came up. I don't know exactly when, why or how.

What happens is that the keypad light can be off while
looking at the list of messages in the inbox. When I open
a message, the keypad can come on. If it didn't, it it
then comes on when I reply or forward the message. When I
send the message, the light usually stays on. Bottom
line: this is really irritating because I start typing and
letter and number come out, I have to backspace over it
all, turn off the keypad (Fn+F8), and then type again.

When my computer is on the expansion base using an
external keyboard, this never happens. When I undock it
with the system running, the keypad and scroll lock lights
come on.

Is there any way in the Windows XP registry to disable the
Keypad function altogether? I never use it. I can deal
with scroll lock since it stays of when I turn it off. I
see nothing in the BIOS that would allow me to disable the
keypad. In the registry I do have
InitialKeyboardIndicators=2 to allow the numlock to be ON
by default. Anything else I can do or try??????

HELP!!!
