keystroke latency problem

In the last week or so, I've encountered a problem when composing in
Outlook -- I may have typed five or six words before any of them show
up on the screen. This doesn't happen constantly, but more often
than not.

I am not experiencing this problem in any other program. I have
worked around the problem by copying posts to WordPad, composing
there, then copying back to Outlook to send, but it would be much
better to solve the problem, if possible.

I've run AdAware and only found a couple of spies; deleting them
didn't help. I archived all the folders in case it had something to
do with the number of posts I had kept. I have closed all other
programs, I have tried rebooting. Nothing has made any difference.

I've never had this problem before. This is a new computer (2 months
old) running WinXP Home, SP2.

I'm a fast typist and this delay is extremely irritating. If anyone
has a clue, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Emily

Are you using Word as the editor? Does it stop if you stop using Word as
the editor?

No, I'm not using Word for anything. I use WordPerfect for word
processing, but I use the unadorned Outlook for composing e-mail. I
also tried both html and plain text and the latency problem occurs in
both.
