Kill the Office Assistant, please, I beseech thee, Microsoft

The "Office Assistant" is incredibly annoying. It interferes with the use of
Office by repeatedly stealing focus away from the document, covering the
screen, making stupid sounds, etc. Although it can be disabled, it is most
annoying on public computers at schools and libraries, where it must be
temporarily disabled every time a user logs on. Please, O Mericful
Microsoft, slay the Office assistant. Think of the children.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control panel and scroll down to
Microsoft Office. Click on the Change button. Select Add or Remove
Features and click Next. (You don't say which version of Office you're
using. I'm using 2003.) Check the Choose Advanced Customization of
Applications box and click Next. Expand the Office Shared Features. A
little ways down you'll see Office Assistant. Left-click on it and
select Not Available. Click Update and the Office Assistant is gone.

Thanks - I didn't know about the uninstallation - but it's not an option on
the public computers I am forced to use almost every day. Kinda dumb to
gripe about something so trivial, but it *is* annoying

OK. Alternately you can right-click on the Assistant and select
Options. Remove the check next to Use The Office Assistant.

You are "FORCED" to use "PUBLIC COMPUTERS"?!?!?!? I recommend you
contact the ACLU folks IMMEDIATELY to correct this civil rights
infringement!!
