Large Entourage Inbox

So, Entourage hangs when opening an inbox with ~270,000 items in it. Any way
around that?

Ow. I'm not surprised!

Is that a local inbox ('folders on my computer') or an IMAP or Exchange
account?

If the latter, it may just take a long, long time for the folders to sync.
Try starting entourage with the shift key held down to disable and schedules
that are set to run on launch.

How did you manage to get so many emails in the inbox?

Well...99.9% are probably spam. I just have not been able to keep up with
the influx of ~5,000/day.

Local file BTW....hopeless?

Well, I'm sorry to say that you're moving into the realm of the untried
here!

Have you downloaded those 270,000 mails, or are they sitting on your server?

If you have downloaded them, the best advise I can offer is to reboot the
mac, open just entourage and then try again.

If they are still on the server, try to access the inbox through web mail or
whatever other method your ISP provides - you may be able to delete a mass
of stuff that way.

If you do get it going again, you need to start learning to use rules that
can automatically deal with this stuff:
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/index.html

I will ask elsewhere is there is any other suggestions, but I wouldn't hold
out much hope,

Steve, you may win some kind of award here. I've sent your post to my
entreprenuerial friends, just so they can get a new sense of what "out
of control" really looks like! With all due respect, Entourage is not
the problem here. If you're trying to get something accomplished in
your life, learning to say no is a critical part of the puzzle!
If I may suggest, pick up a copy of Getting Things Done, by David
Allen. It'll transform not only how organization takes place in work
and home, but it'll also help in learning to distinguish important from
the rest. It's been a lifesaver for me.

LOL! Thanks for the tip...however misguided. Our business model prevents me
from simply deleting the spam or bouncing it before it arrives. So, every so
often I let a bunch collect and apply a nice little rule to it to move the
likely spam to a special folder, that it is then archived.

So, if you have anything technical to solve the can't open a large folder
issue, the input is welcome!

Have you enabled the Junk Mail Filter? You can select the level of
protection you want and the mail will go the the Junk folder rather than
your Inbox for further examination.
