Launch problem

Whenever I launch Entourage, it gets part way through the process, then
displays the message: "The action could not be completed. Mail error."
It happened suddenly one day, and I'd been doing nothing unusual on the
Mac, which is installed with OSX vs 10.3.9.

I can still send and receive by using the menu at the top, but the
various action buttons within the Entourage fram don't work, neither
does the automated send-and-receive schedule work at launch. I'm unable
to drag and drop items from the inbox to my cabinet of folders,
including the Deleted Items. In addition, all new mail inbox info
remains in bold, as if unread, even if I've read it.

Anyone any ideas what might have gone wrong?

Try rebuild database:
Hold down Opt when launching -> Rebuild.
