line chart

i am looking for an easier way to have a line be drawn
across my graph. (like an animated stock quote chart)
i have used a breakdown of slide-by slide (i fill in more
data table fields w/ each slide).
i have also converted graph to object and then ungrouped,
selected, regrouped, animated. pshew - quite a workout.

is there an easier way? perhaps, an add-in?
or would another program be the answer?
