link will not open in ppt presentation

When I try to click on a link in a ppt presentation I get the message "cannot
download information requested." Also, when I look at my current programs on
my computer, the only thing showing for Powerpoint is Powerpoint Viewer 2003.
Could this be part of the problem? Do I need to reinstall Powerpoint from
my Office XP?

Jane,
Check if the Internet Explorer browser has been set to 'Work Offline' mode.
This will also cause the hyperlink error you are experiencing.
