Linking data from Excel to PowerPoint (without paste link)

I need to set up a data file in Excel 2003 to feed text to text boxes and
autoshapes on PowerPoint 2003 slides. I want the text to respond to
formatting of the PowerPoint object or text box so that I do not need to go
through the presentation each time to change 60 slides.

The paste link function in Excel is not versatile enough because (1) the
text comes in as an object, not as text, (2) the object has a box around it
that interrupts the design of my slide presentation, and (3) this method
requires that formatting be done in Excel before the text is linked to
PowerPoint.

How can my goal best be achieved?

Maybe you can have a look at www.take-off.as/datapoint
Otherwise you will have to do vba programming.
