Hi All,

I am new to MAC and Entourage. Coming from Outlook I used multiple profiles which included: Work, Home and Mobile.

The reason for this was 3 different ISP were used and I set-up each different email address with the relevant SMTP server details.

In outlook I could log on as any profile but all used the same personal file which meant all mail was accessible.

At present mail in my work identity is not visible in my home identity; vice-versa.

Does anyone know if I can do the same in Entourage?

Thanks,
Michael H

Hi Michael,

Entourage and Outlook have different approaches to this problem. In
Entourage, you can use different identities, but, as you have already
noticed, you can only use one identity at any given moment. Entourage is
less flexible than Outlook in that regard, and there's not much you can
change about it.

You could simply use the three accounts in one single identity and set up
Entourage to sort incoming mail messages into different folders based on
their account. To find out how to do that, follow this link:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/articles/switch_from_mail_faqs.html>

Scroll down to a section entitled "Manage Inboxes: Separate inboxes". Note
that even though this article was written for Mail.app users, its principles
remain the same for former Outlook users.

Thanks Michel.

Unfortunately not exactly what I really want but I will live with it.

Perhaps someone who is handy with script writing should write a little program which unifies the personal files of separate identities?

Shouldn't expect it would be too hard as it would only be a directory/path change to the personal file folder location. I think...

You can sort accounts to an Inbox you set up, or you can choose to view in
one Inbox. See examples at the bottom of this page:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/lesson.html>

You also need to learn about custom Mail views.

Hi Michael!

Michel's solution is the best.

First Entourage is not Outlook. Trying to force Entourage to act like
Outlook can oftentimes be an exercise in futility.

Second, Outlook is the only application in the world that uses PST
files. Regardless of what other mail application you try to use (Mac or
Windows) it will probably not have a solution that acts like PST files.
If you want PST files you're only solution is to use Outlook.

Third, the idea of "profiles" was intended for the days when we didn't
use multiple computer accounts and multiple users shared the same
"login". Profiles enabled those multiple users to use Outlook or
Entourage and keep their information separate. It's an outdated feature
that I suggest you avoid just to keep accounts separate.

Hope this helps!
