linking to Bookmarked part of a page

M

Milo

FP2002 user here.
I know how to set up a hyperlink in general and I know how to set up a
bookmark on a page so I could link, for instance from a menu at the top of a
page to a point way down lower on the page.

I can even, using the # sign, link to a specific webpage's bookmark, if I
start from the www with something like www.webpagename.com/page2#bookmarkname

But how can I link to a relative address's bookmark? This would be the
safest way, as I do move pages around in my site and would not want to hard
code the pagename from the www down. (Plus, my sitename has aliases so
hardcoding would be problematic)

I tried using the # in conjunction with ../ type addresses with no luck.
Thanks!

Have you looked in the help files for hyperlinks and bookmarks?

everything I find there tells how to link within the SAME page.
not saying it's not out there how to link from another page, but even
with what you sent me...I'm not finding it.

FrontPage only 'teaches' you how to use its limitated feature sets.
Google: "fragment identifiers" to learn to implement complete control (also
called "jump tags").

Clinton, I've looked at a few of those pages and my head is swimming from the
jargon. But as far as I've seen, anything to use the # or the ?jump features
starts with http. Is there any way to do it relative to my website hierarchy
with a ../ or something like that?

The way you appear to be using is the corect way

From a page in the root folder:
<a href="foldername/pagename.htm#bookmrkname">some text</a>

From a folder to a page in the root:
<a href="../pagename.htm#bookmrkname">some text</a>

From a folder to another folder:
<a href="../foldername/pagename.htm#bookmrkname">some text</a>

These can also be set up using the hyperlink dialogue - browse to the
required page, and set the bookmark (in some versions of FP the target
page must be open to see the bookmarks in the page).

FrontPage features are only as "limitated" as its keyboard operater.
