Links to existing file feature not working properly

I am using Entourage 2004 [with the 11.2.4 update] in Mac OS 10.4.6.
Whenever I try to link a file using Tools > Link to Existing > File...
the recipient does not receive the link, whetther they are on a Mac
with Entourage or a PC with Outlook.

Also why does the link not display plainly in the mail window as it
does in Outlook?

Links are used internally to make connections between Entourage data items
and other Entourage data items or files. They are stored within the
Entourage database and have no significance for other users.

If you need to actually send a document for someone else to see, you need to
attach it. You can do that by clicking the paperclip icon ("Add
Attachments" button) on the toolbar of the new message window, or by going
to Message > Add Attachments.
