Loading a presentation causes Powerpoint to shutdown...suspect DL.

I have been saving ppt files to a rewriteable CD that is DLA formatted. It
has worked up until now. When I load a ppt presentation from the CD it
causes the program to shut down. I suspect a DLA problem. I have
reinstalled DLA and it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Hi Mark,

Since it worked until recently, I'd start with "what did you change
immediately before it stopped working". Also, why would you suspect DLA?

Glenna,
Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately, I added several programs
including AdAware, Spybot, Winpatrol and Noadware in an effort to combat
spyware. I discovered that Noadware probably wasn't legit. and removed it.
This is about when the trouble started.
I no longer think the problem is with DLA since I have loaded files from
other DLA formatted CDs into other programs without a problem. Even files
on Word work OK.
I ran the update for Office 2003 and also ran the repair Office program on
the original Office 2003 CD. The problem still persists. I have sent the
error notification to Microsoft and the reply says that the problem is with
an installed driver. I checked Microsoft.com for updated drivers for Office
and there were none. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Any chance you're running XP? You might be able to use System Restore.
Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

I discovered the problem. The CD I was using was formatted with Direct CD
which is not compatible with DLA. I removed DLA from the PC and the CD loads
just fine.
However, I cannot use the CD-RW to store and retrieve my filesas I would
like. When I copy a ppt file to the CD using the XP provided software, it
creates a "Read Only" file on the CD. As such, I cannot modify the file when
I load it from the CD, which is not acceptable. The folks at HP (who design
DLA) tell me that it is not possible to do this with the XP software. I am
using a RW drive and RW disks. Do you have any suggestions? By the way, the
same thing happens when I use Record Now to format the CD. Thanks for your
thoughts.
Mark
