Location of Entourage ID database

I use two computers in two different locations. I store all data on an external
hard drive and plug it in to whichever computer I am working on.

Is there a way to move the Entourage database to the external drive so I
don't have to copy it back and forth to the defaul userid/documents
location?

No, you can't change the location of the Entourage database. I would
recommend that you keep the Microsoft User Data folder on the external drive
and Command-Option-Drag it to the ~/Documents/ folder to create an alias on
both machines. That way your data should be immediately available whenever
you launch Entourage when the drive is plugged in.

Mickey: Thanks for the prompt reply, but I'm a little confused. You say "you
can't change the location of the ... database", but then say "keep the
Microsoft User Data folder on the external drive" and put aliases in userid/
Documents.

I want to make sure I understand. Entourage will by default look for the
database in userid/documents, but as long as there is an alias there that
points to the real location of the database on the external hard drive, it will
be OK.

In other words, I can move the user id/database anywhere as long as I
replace it with an alias in the default location where Entourage expects to
find the file.

Right. I should have said "You can't change the location where Entourage
looks for the identity/database. (~/Documents)"

Exactly.
