LONG delay in opening new message

I'm using entourage 2001 on OS 9.2.2. I continue to have this problem
even after doing a clean install of the system software:

When I want to create a new message it takes about 20 seconds before
it will let me enter an addressee. Same thing if I want to alter any
of the addressee fields after switching to a different window or
subwindow. But if I click on an email address to create a new message,
or click "send to" from an addressee in the address book, it happens
with normal quickness.

Suggestions?

Try increasing the memory allocation to Entourage. Quit Entourage, and then
locate the Entourage application icon. Select it, and then go to File -> Get
Info -> Memory. Set the Preferred size to 25000K, then close the window.
Launch Entourage and see if the problem is resolved.

Try closing the Address Book pane in the addressing pane by clicking the
"Address Book" button (to the right of the Add, Remove, and Check Names
buttons). Close the window. Do new messages open more quickly?

Try rebuilding the database. In Entourage 2001, quit Entourage, and then
restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box
comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild.
