Long Delays in Sending Messages

Hi --

I'm running Entourage 10.1 (2006) on a MacBook with OS 10.5.1. I have this set up with a yahoo account. Lately I've been having problems sending messages. They leave the outbox immediately, and show up in the sent items folder right away, but they aren't delivered for 5 or 6 hours. If I log on to the yahoo account on the internet and send a message through that site, it is delivered (and received through Entourage) right away. Any ideas?

You should update to 10.1.9 and 10.5.2 respectively (though I don;t
think it'll make any difference for your problem),

I suspect that this is a Yahoo issue.
The messages are delayed because the SMTP server is slow actually
sending them
The webpage is not affected because it's not using the SMTP server to
send.
In any case, it really doesn't look like an issue with Entourage itself.

Make sure you're using the recommended settings for Yahoo!. Check your
server names and your authentication scheme. You may be running into some
kind of rate limiting if you're using non-optimal or outdated settings.

Barring that, you should contact Yahoo!. You may also want to try the same
settings in Mail.app and see what happens there.

You are using End of Life software (Entourage X). Not only is it old
software, you need to update it. Entourage X is broken for the new Daylight
Saving Time change. It will never be fixed.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade Office while the promotions are
going on. You might be able to find a good deal on Office 2004 or just get
the Home & Student version of Office 2008 for $130.99.

I'm running the latest version of Office 2004 and I've been having the same
problems for the last 1-2 weeks. My delays have been as long as 11 hours.
Mine is through Yahoo also. I've posted an inquiry on the Yahoo Mail forum
and am hoping that someone will have an explanation or suggestion soon.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be a yahoo problem. I'm running into the same problems using Mac's Mail program, too. I just finished a "help chat" with Yahoo, and they say they're aware of the problem and the engineers are working on it, but they don't have any idea when it will be fixed. Extremely helpful. They didn't have any thoughts on what can be done in the meantime. Very excited about all this.
