Looking information about js.OpenExtLink

J

Jack

There are 9470 successful Google search results: keyword OpenExtLink.
All of them return html code of messages which contain the reference to
js.OpenExtLink,
similar to the example shown below:

onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"
href="http://go.microsoft

Interestingly, there is not any information about OpenExtLink on MSDN
website.

Any comments appreciated,
Jack

Java has nothing to do with this, perhaps you meant javascript.

OE has nothing to do with this, so you posted to the wrong NGs.

It also has nothing to do with Front Page.

Did you read any of the 9470 results, or just get a number so you could post
it here?

If you want information on that topic, I suggest you read those links.

1.
I did not use "javascript" word in my post on purpose.
Although
onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"
may suggest that js. is a javascript I would not be so sure about it.
If it was *.js then I would say it is.
In this case it is something, which I do not understand, and looking for
help to understand.
2.
All Google search results (keyword: js.OpenExtLink) are email messages shown
as source.
More interesting is that the attempts to reverse them to the normal view
fail, which create more questions.

On what basis you are stating that it has nothing to do with OE?
People like you, should not be allowed to become MVP in the first place.
Why are you bringing your grudge from another thread into this one?
Get lost!
I despise boneheads like you.

#2 I did not hear him say he was an MVP
#3 What is the deal with this piece of code? Do you have a
question on what it does or how it works?

You are having a tandrum there, Jack. Calm down.

When you post in NQ, you get back, answers, questions, suggetions or
combination. All replies provide value and they lead you to a solution.

I didn't see anyting in Steve's reply that deseved your tandrum.

Now, in response to your question, i also did some research to answer
your question becuase got also curious.

And yes, i concur with Steve that Java has nothing to do with this, OE
has nothing to do with this, and FP has noting to do with this.

And yes, you are right. Doing a google search, yields gadzilion result
of th eitme in HTML source. But nothing really useful. That is a google
issue.

My concusion is that it is Javascript. It is either a fucntion or an
object method. This call appears in links embeded in HTML messages
(either HTML messages or web based equivalent including web boards)

I was trying to see if can find a web page with an external javascript
file, e.g. somefilr.js but I wan't succesful.

Tandrum is a tantrum one has as if one were in a tundra. :)

Tantrum: A tantrum is an emotional outburst, usually for young children
of the ages of 3-6. Most children throw a tantrum when they are upset or
bothered. Other children throw tantrums thinking they'll get something
they want.

Tundra: A level or rolling treeless plain in the arctic or subarctic
regions; the soil is black and mucky, the subsoil is permanently frozen,
and the vegetation is dominated by mosses, lichens, herbs, and dwarf
shrubs. A similar environment occurs in mountainous areas above the
timberline.

You clearly don't understand, and your method of seeking help is less than

You won't get anymore from me.

Jack

Thanks for calming me down the gentleman's way.
It was Steve, who tried to kill this thread and the reason for it was buried
in another thread in the outlookexpress forum.
Shortly, in that other thread I was given the answers being perceived as an
idiot.
These people, I know all of them are volunteers, doing that on their free
time and so on, are too long in that role. I think a little of fresh blood
will reinvent the forums.
I do not want to be bore, but if you wish please check that thread:
Url shown in message sometimes does not work!!!! dated November 04 and
posted in:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
and see it for yourself.

I am a software developer myself, sometimes I use javascript on my website,
I know what SDK, MSDN, SAPI, TAPI and the meaning of many other
abbreviations.
It is only my curiosity to find out what that js.OpenExtLink() can be.
I can live without it, but as more enigmatic it is then even more I would
like to find out.
This is real enigma.
After posts in so many newsgroups, not even one MVP came with close answer
or any answer.
There is NOT mention about it in MSDN site.
And ALL search results by Google (over 9000) are the same type: that
function(?) is part of html code-->part of the source code of email
messages.
Surely, someone out there knows what that is about!
Thanks,
Jack

J

Jack

1.
I apologized and gave the reason why I did crosspost in the other forums.
It was not my fault, but OE.
OE failed to resolve some forums names (I copied and pasted-- not typed)
and it did not post everywhere I wanted.
I do not know the method, how can I post the same message posted already
in another forum without crossposting.
Do you?
2.
If he is not MVP it does not matter. He is PhD anyway and he should know
better.
I am afraid that after so many long years replying in the forums can be bad
for the person.
3.
It is just my curiosity.
It suddenly appeared as part of the html source code in my message created
by OE.
I am trying to find out what is that and where it came from.
As you can see there are over 9000 results but Google but all of the are the
same type:
part of html source code.

In fact it happened under special circumstances.
If you would like to check on it please see this thread:
Url shown in message sometimes does not work!!!! dated November 04 and
posted in:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

So, instead of posting the information here in this FP newsgroup, you are
asking people to go to an outlook express newsgroup and dig through it?

Heck dude, you're the one with the problem, and you expect *us* to do extra
work to help you solve it?

Nobody is *demanding* anything from you. You are *requesting* help from us.

Here's a tip on getting help from people who don't have any obligation to
help you: Make it easy for them. Otherwise, your chances of getting help are
*much* lower.

Heck, Tom, I did some research out of curiosity. After awhile, I realized
that this is simply a reference to a JavaScript, and anyone can name a
JavaScript "top.js." But you're absolutely right. He isn't going to get
voluntary help from anyone by aggressive behavior.
