looping PART of a presentation

Is is possible to get the first 5 slides to loop continuously, then on a key
press by presenter, go directly to the first slide beyond the loop (slide #6
in this example).

Probably the easiest way is to have two presentations. hyperlink to the
looping presentation from an action button on the main presentation and then
press esc to return to the main show.

Try this:
Hide the slides starting from slide 6 onwards.
To do so, select the slide thumbnails on slide 6 onwards, then right click
and select Hide Slide.

Now, click Slide Show > Set Up Show.
Put a checkmark to Loop continuously until 'Esc'.

Go to Slide 5. Add an action button that goes to Slide 6.
* Make sure that the action button is hyperlink to Slide 6 and not "Next
Slide".

Now preview the slide show. You will realise that if you click on the action
button, you will be able to stop the loop and continue viewing the rest of
the hidden slides.

Does this work for you?

If you do not want any hyperlink, you can also use the keyboard. Press 6,
then Enter to get out of the "loop" and continue with the rest of the
presentation.
