Losing contact categories when compress dbase?

I¹ve been hesitant to run a check and compress my Entourage 2004 dbase
because when I¹ve done so in the past, it has eliminated all of the
categories assigned to my contacts, forcing me to go through the entire
contacts list and reassign the categories so my rules will work properly. Is
there any way to avoid losing this data when I run the dbase management
tool?

Thanks.

Hi Chris!

One option is to upgrade. Entourage 2008 no longer loses the categories
and links associated with items.

Hope this helps!

I use a script to workaround this problem:

It was originally designed for Exchange accounts, but the problem being
here near-identical, it could help you too,
