Lost all emails!

Customer of mine has a G4 Aluminum with Entourage. Had all her late
husbands emails...key word "had"! She asked me to change his email
account so that it would download her emails. I changed his account
information to her information and her emails began trickling in. Had
another issue where laptop needed to be restarted. When I brought
Entourage back up after restart, it asked me to reenter the email
account information that was originally in there for her husband.
First of all, why? What does it care?

All I know is that once I re-entered everything, all of the emails
were gone!! So, my question is, how can I find the emails again? What
is the path for the main email file?

Did Entourage start up with a brand new Identity or did it just revert to
the old account info. Did she quit Entourage or did it crash? Did she use
proper shut down of the computer or did she just pull the plug?
