Lost all my soft ware when I had to start over.

I'm a grandma that is not real computer knowledgeable... any way...
got a trojen horse or worm or something... and I had to basically star
over... I did however keep most of my documents on backup CD... but no
it will not let me open them because it says I don't have the sof
ware... It won't let me use my Works Suite 2004 after I reloaded it
because I can't register it again...because I didn't keep the origian
box it came in and I don't have the 25 digit code they want to registe
it with.... why can't they just look up my registration from before?
Anyway... What can i do now? I can't afford new soft ware... and
really need to open my documents?
