Here is my response to the info I received in that page.
I really appreciate your feedback.
Again I( DO want to thank you for responding.
If you have not used a new identity in Entourage, then copy the entire
Microsoft User Data folder to the correct location.
I have no idea if I have used a new identity because I do not know what that
means.
Entourage creates an Identity when it's opened. Very similar to the Mac OS
creating a User account. Just like the OS you can have multiple Identities.
Each one is separate. They are not meant to be used for different Users
(people) but for testing and archiving. You certainly don't want to be
switching Identity for each Account. Entourage can have multiple accounts.
Have you used Entourage to download or send mail? You don't want to
overwrite your data if there is data in the Identity.
Fix if you have more than one Microsoft User Data Folder...
But how do I fix it?
Move the entire identity folder you want to use to the Office Identities
folder that Entourage is recognizing.
How do I know which one to use and how do I know which one Entourage is
recognizing?
You can rename them. In Entourage 2004 the Identity name is at the top of
the window.
Your identity is named "Main" by default. Be sure to rename one so you do
not overwrite. Your identity folder can contain more than one identity.
Switch Identities to view your old mail.
Which one am I renaming? Why, when I switch identities, does it tell me to
close out of Entourage and reopen? Then when I do reopen it is the same.
You can rename either one. Just name them something that will tell you
something. Suppose you moved your Main Identity and now have a new Main
Identity in the MUD folder. This new Main Identity has some mail in it, but
you want your older Main Identity to be your default. I would rename the
newer one 'new Main'. Now when you switch Identities you'll know the
difference between your original Main Identity that you moved back and the
new one that has data to be salvaged before deleting.
When you Switch Identities Entourage requires you to quit other Microsoft
applications, but Entourage does not quit. A window comes up that allows you
to select the Identity you want opened. You would select Main Identity to
get back to your original.
If you have not used the new identity, delete it.
Again what does this mean
If Entourage created a new Identity, but you never used it to download mail
then you can safely delete it as it's empty.
If you have used it and want to combine the new mail with your original
database, drag each folder to the desktop from one identity. This creates an
MBOX file. Switch identities. Drag the MBOX files into the folder window of
Entourage. You can delete the old folder after you are satisfied with the
transfer.
I do not understand any of this.
When you need to get your mail from one Identity to another in the same
version. (That's Entourage 2004 Identity #1 to Entourage 2004 Identity #2.)
You can't use the same import function like can to import from Entourage X
to Entourage 2004. You have two options.
1. Export your Entourage data as an Entourage archive (.rge). This can be
imported into Entourage. File --> Export --> Items to an Entourage archive
2. Select a folder and drag it to the desktop. This will create an MBOX
file. Switch Identities and drag the MBOX files into the folder window.
An MBOX file can be used by other mail programs. Read this glossary entry
for more on MBOX: <
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/index.html#mbox>
Each subfolder has to be dragged also. If you have a lot of folders this can
be very time consuming. The export as Entourage archive is much easier if
you have lots of data.
I need to work on a video of the process.
