Lost images!

Noel S Pamfree

I have prepared a PowerPoint presentation (2002 XP version) on my pc.

I copied the ppt file onto my data-pen and then to my laptop.

When I try to use the presentation on my laptop many of the jpg images are
missing and all I get is a white rectangle with a red cross in it.

However, if I run the presentation on my laptop directly from the data-pen
it works fine.

Can any one tell me why this is so?

I assumed that PowerPoint saved the images within the presentation.

Thanks for any help,

Noel

Did you really copy the file to your data-pen, or did you use File > Save in
PowerPoint? If you used Save, the file may have become corrupted on the
data-pen. You should open Windows Explorer and then drag the presentation file
to the data-pen or do a copy and paste.

When you inserted the images, did you specifically link them? If not, then they
should be embedded.

Thanks for this helpful info.

One of the solutions is to "see whether the image is linked to a file, and
if so, whether the file is where it's supposed to be."

I didn't do anything clever - I just inserted pictures (mainly jpegs). How
can I check whether the images are linked?

I must have copied the file into my data-pen as I can run the presentation
quite successfully if I load it into the laptop from the data-pen.

I think I 'dragged and dropped' it using Explorer.

I didn't do anything clever when I inserted the images I just went to
'insert picture', chose the image and clicked 'insert'.

Thanks for your help.

I'm lost. I can't tell if the file runs properly from the data pen or from
the hard drive or from neither or from both.

Not that it really matters, I suppose. Sonia's already steered you toward
what we know about Red X in PPT. The only other suggestion I'd have is to
make sure you have all service packs installed for your version of
Office/PPT.

I'm totally confused. You first said:

1. However, if I run the presentation on my laptop directly from the data-pen
it works fine.

And now you say:

2. I can run the presentation quite successfully if I load it into the laptop
from the data-pen.

Can you please clarify??? What doesn't work?

Have you tried re-copying it to the hard drive on the laptop? It sounds like it
may not have copied correctly or totally.

Allow me to explain again:

If I plug the data-pen into my laptop and 'open' the presentation from drive
E: (my data-pen drive) it runs perfectly well, all pictures are present but
it is a bit slow in loading.

However if I use the same file from the same data-pen and copy it onto the
hard drive of the laptop, then load it in from there, I get big red crosses
instead of pictures in some (but not all) of the slides.

Thanks for letting us know. This can happen if you pull the data pen
prematurely. When using data on a thumb drive or pen drive, always leave the
drive plugged in until you've closed the file.

Success.

When I deleted the copy I had made from the pen-drive to the hard drive on
the laptop and copied it again with explorer the images appeared!

I guess it was corrupted.

Many thanks for all the help.
