lost "my contacts"

I can access my contacts from the Folder list, but they don't show up when I
go to the Contacts bar on the left in Outlook 2003. How do I bring this back?

try restarting outlook using the resetnavpane switch. At startmenu run, type
outlook.exe /resetnavpane
