.Mac e-mail

Hi,

I can receive my .mac e-mail in Entourage, but can¹t send it. I can do both
from Mail, but I love using Entourage, so I really want to use that as my
main mail program. It appears that I have both set up the same, but
obviously I¹m missing something. I currently can send and receive e-mail
from my local ISP and my Hotmail account.

Hello Frank,

I don¹t know if I¹m supposed to respond to this or not, but what I have
found from our email server is when shutting down outside user¹s or spammers
ability to ³relay² from our server, outgoing mail will require
authentication. To make this happen go to your ³tools² menu, and select
³accounts². In the accounts window, select the .mac account and click ³edit²
from the top tool bar. In ³edit² click on the ³advanced sending options²
button under ³sending mail². In this window you then check the box for ³SMTP
Server Requires Authorization², and then click on the radio button ³Use same
settings as receiving mail server².

A mail server with open relays can be used by spammers as a 3rd party
hosting site, so blocking them helps make the server less susceptible to
acting as a junk mail server. Your .mac server probably just needs
authentication to let you send through it.

Thanks for the reply.

I did that and it didn¹t work. Any other thoughts?? I must be doing
something simple, but wrong.<g>.

Try:

Tools | Accounts |
Choose .Mac Account and edit

Go to Sending Mail (bottom of edit pane)

SMTP server should read- smtp.mac.com

Under that click advance sending options

Check box for ³Server requires authentication² and check radio button for
³use same settings as receiving mail server²

This is happening to me too. I have my .mac account configured as
described, but, as of yesterday, I cannot send email from the .mac
account. I wonder if it has something to do with updating Entourage as
recommended by autoupdate which I also did yesterday. My account
settings remain as they were.
Any thoughts?
