I don't know what Comcast does, but I know some ISPs prevent you from
using "external" SMTP servers. You might have to use their SMTP for the
.Mac account.
Otherwise, make sure you select Use SSL and enter the proper information
to authenticate to send e-mail on Apple's SMTP server.
I'm a Comcast user and have a few external SMTP servers set up for
various non-Comcast accounts. I wouldn't be surprised that Comcast
blocks port 25 to prevent your own home server from sending E-mail it
doesn't block sending through someone else's server.
Carl, are you having problems with a Comcast account or an external
account such as .Mac, Gmail or Hotmail?
If you can receive mail but not send then something with your SMTP
server is not configured correctly. Have a look at this information
about configuring SMTP for an account
<
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/smtp.html>. If you're using an
external E-mail service then you'll probably need to modify the
"advanced sending options". Those settings will depend on your service.
Comcast's SMTP server is "smtp.comcast.net".
Hope this helps!
