.Mac mail over Airport network

I am having some trouble sending .Mac mail over my Airport Extreme network
at home. I just moved and set up a new network. It worked just fine on my
old network where I used to live.

The error reads ³An operation on the server timed out. The server may be
down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.² I don¹t think this
is the case though since I have never had this problem before.

Anyone got any suggestions? Also Entourage keeps my folders organized, but
sometimes it will still show the inbox bold and how many messages are new
even after I have read them and moved them. The messages are not bold after
I view them. And then when I go to .Mac to look at the messages, they are
not moved to the appropriate folders as they are on my Entourage.

By the way, I¹m using Entourage 2004.

Thanks,
keith

Actually, it turns out that the airport network has nothing to do with this.
It won¹t send with a hard connection either. I looked on the apple forums
and a lot of people are having this problem with SBC. Any clues?

Never mind. I found it on the apple forums. Thanks anyway. By the way if
any of you are having this problem with SBC change your outgoing mail server
port to 587 and it will fix the problem. It did for me at least.

SBC is blocking port 25 and preventing everyone from sending mail from
outside SMTP servers. You have 3 options:
- use the SBC SMTP server
- configure the .Mac SMTP to go through SSL (If it doesn't select the
port automatically I believe it has to be set to 597, but I'd have to
check).
- go on the help pages for SBC and look for "port 25". You should find
help notes that offer you the prossibility to request through the
"abuse" forms that they stop blocking port 25 for your account.

I had the same problem and I really really did nol appreciate the fact I
never received any warning of the change. Quite a few of my e-mails got
lost in the ether because of that :-<
