Hi Barry - I'm wondering if you could help. I am also experiencing
this problem.
When you have a new problem, it's best to start a new subject. Many users
actually search for help by subject and if you add a new topic to an old
subject it makes it hard for anyone else to benefit from the exchange.
I have reinstalled Office 2004, and also tried to down
load the update file your link ponts to above...I am getting a message
that says "The installer could not find MS autoupdate or oyu have
clicked cancel" (when I think I am actually trying to re-install the
autoupdate feature...)
Have you come across this before or have any tips on fixing?
I just tried it and got the same error. I think this is an update for the
AutoUpdate program.
Try this. Create a new User in System Preferences and install Office from
your CD into the new User's application folder. You might have to create a
folder in the User's Home folder. Does it install the AutoUpdate
application? If yes, then copy it to Shared folder and you can drag it over
to your regular User's folder. This way you won't mess up your Office
install.
Warning: Installing multiple copies of Office can be troublesome. Removing
Office and reinstalling for a few users has been troublesome in that could
not update. Best course of action is to install on a HD without Office if
possible.
Personally, I don't like the AutoUpdater for anything other than a notice. I
prefer to download my Apple and Microsoft updates from the web and install.
