mac > pc email compatibility (characters do not translate)

Problem w/Entourage email... When I send mail to PC users
a number of characters (commas, apostrophes, quotes, etc.)
simply do not translate; they show up either upside down
or completely transformed into something else. I have all
the latest updates from MS, but no fix. It seems better
when I use plain text (vs. HTML), but that still doesn¹t
solve it completely. Anyone have experience w/this?
Maybe a recommended fix? Please and thank you...

This is the fault of the PC client that doesn't properly declare/interpret
character sets.

If the OC user is having problems READING your mail, set the character set
to 'Western European (Windows)' under the format menu.

Far more common, however, is that when they reply to you and quote part of
your message the character set is properly messed up. The fix is the same,
but in this case, you can use a rule to set the character set on the mail as
it arrives:
