Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: imap

Thankfully I backed up my macbook pro with Time Machine before I did the latest mac update. But in doing the update, all my Entourage setup and config has gone West. As a result it starts up with the wizard asking me to setup an email account.

As I said I have Time machine backups. Buch which files do I need to restore.

TIA

Hi,

this has absolutely nothing to do with the recent update to Mac OS X. You
have most likely moved the Microsoft User Data folder inside your Documents
folder; move it back inside, with Entourage not running, and you should be
able to access your old data again. You may find that folder in Time Machine
as well, but keep in mind that the backup copy may be unusable (the
Entourage database is not really Time Machine-friendly for a number of
reasons).

Hi, Thanks for your response.
I checked and my HOME/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder seems to be in place. I have not touched this.

Nevertheless, I saved a copy of it, then restored yesterdays copy of this folder and restarted Entourage but the same thing happens. My accounts are not shown and the Entourage Setup Assistant comes up as if a fresh install of Entourage had just taken place.

This problem only occured after the reboot of the 10.5.7 update. Before this Entourage worked perfectly with all my IMAP and POP3 accounts.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi Michel,

Well I perservered with your suggestion by going back in time machine several backups in time and restored the Microsoft User Data folder. Everything works now and back to normal. I have time machine permanently on so I tried to restore from a backup that had occured before the shutdown but after the update. Just as a tested, I put the folder back to the backup taken just after the update and it fail. So while I am in debt to you for helping me fix the problem, I have proven without doubt that the 10.5.7 update is the cause of Entourage loosing its mind.

Thanks heaps anyway.

Well first of all, Time Machine does not necessarily reliably back up
Entourage's database. Let's not go to that step unless necessary.

Your data is saved in your Documents folder in a folder called
Microsoft User Data then Office 2008 Identities. Check to see what's
there. Also do a Spotlight search to see if this was moved.

If your Identity is still there, it's possible all you need to do is
choose Switch Identity from the Entourage menu.

For more information about backing up and restoring your data, see:

Hi Thanks for that info.

Hwever I think I am safe to use Time Machine because I only take backups once per day and I do the backup manually before I turn off for the day. Before I do the backup, I always ensure the system is as quesce as possible by closing down all apps. Since TM backs up files whos data is static it means that my backups are safe.

In the end I restored my Microsoft User Data folder from a backup taken a day before the update and this fixed the problem.

Cheers
