"Mail can't be sent" after upgrade

N

Norman Pillsbury

I just upgraded to Mac version 11.2.0 (050811) and now I cannot send
mail. I can receive mail, but not send it. I get the following error:

"relaying to <email address> prohibited by administrator"
Mail could not be sent.
Error -17099

This is bad...it's been working fine for a year or more, and not this.
What do I do?

Do you have SMTP authentication enabled for the account you are having
issues with? If not, please try enabling this and see if that works.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Dear Rebecca: I went under Accounts/Edit and under advanced seding
options, selected SMTP server requirs authentication. Is that what you
meant? It didn't help and just gave me a different error. I can still
received mail, but can't send.

Any other ideas?

THanks,
Norm

That is what I meant. Are you doing this for a POP account, IMAP account,
etc? Is this for a .mac account by any chance? If so, they updated their
servers recently and you may have to update your settings. This happened a
day before we released the update for SP2.

Thanks,
Rebecca
