Just moved to Canada and got set up on DSL with Bell Sympatico. The
connection seems fine (I can surf), but I can't send or retrieve e-mail.
I keep getting the following error:
Mail Error: The server doesn't support SMTP authentication. #5530.
The Sympatico people tell me that since they joined forces with MSN,
they're requiring SSL connections for both POP and SMTP servers.
Entourage (and it's little sibling, Outlook Express) indicate that they
can do this, but no one at Sympatico seems to be able to make this work.
I've been on the phone with tech support for 2 days, and they finally
gave up today and said it didn't work for the Mac, only Windows, because
Entourage and Outlook Express don't support SSL, even though their is a
checkbox option for it.
This just doesn't seem right to me. Is there a fix?
Here are my specifics:
OS 9.1
Microsoft Entourage 9.0.4 (Office 2001)
POP set for SSL
SMTP set for SSL, login required
Thanks in advance.
