Mail Error Message on Starting Entourage

This is VERY WEIRD! All of a sudden this afternoon, when opening
Entourage to check mail, a dialog box appears across my inbox that
says: Application cannot be started. Mail error.

None of the toolbar buttons work -- I cannot create, print, or delete
messages or send and receive email on command. However, if I wait for
the scheduled mail check, Entourage will receive and download mail
from the server.

I have done nothing at all to any of my preferences in Entourage or
Panther and am absolutely clueless why this would happen so suddenly
after using Entourage all day today.

I've shut down and restarted my system several times to no avail.
Word and Excel are OK. Anybody have a suggestion or two??

Try rebuilding the database. If you're in Entourage X, first go to
Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then
restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box
comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild.

If that doesn't work, you might want to try removing and re-installing
Office. Remove and re-install Office X. Insert the Office X CD, then open
the Value Pack. Click the Value Pack Installer. Check "Remove Office",
then click "Continue". Run the "Remove Office" utility. When done,
re-install Office X from the CD.

Download and install the latest Office X updates, which are 10.1.2, 10.1.4,
and 10.1.5 (10.1.3 is unnecessary). They¹re available from Microsoft.

If you're running Office 2001, download the "Remove Office" tool from the
Microsoft site, run it, and then re-install Office X. then, apply the
"Office 2001 Combined Update 9.0.4," available from the same site.

In the future please state what version you're using.
