Mail Merge problems

I am trying to perform a Mail Merge to create mailing
labels from Outlook 2002. I'm running Windows XP. When
I try to do this, I get an error message that says "The
operation cannot be completed because of dialog or
database errors. Please try again later." (As if trying
later would help??!)

I searched the MS Knowledgebase and the only article I
found was something about problems IF the contacts were
in a public folder, which mine are not.

I also tried to do a mail merge in Word and was
unsuccessful. When using the mail merge wizard, the
merge button was greyed out. Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

List the exact steps you are using and the errors you receive.
Verify that you have the Outlook Address Book Service installed and
configured correctly in your Outlook profile and that Outlook is your
default mail and Contacts manager.

What is the Outlook Address Book Service and how do I
know if it's configured correctly?
