Mail sort order problem

In my email list, when I click on the 'From' header, I expect it to sort all the emails alphabetically by name. And it does, but backwards, so that the Zs are at the top and the As at the bottom. This is kinda infuriating, because it's the opposite of what every other program does and I end up halfway down my list before I realize I'm scrolling in the wrong direction. Am I missing something obvious? I realize I can click again to get it to sort the other way, but that's not the point.
Thanks

click on the triangle at the top of the sort column (next to the column
name) This toggles the sort order - lowest to highest/highest to lowest

The OP notes that he knows how to do this, but wants it to default that way.

The sorting order stays consistent when changing columns. When viewing by
Received, you want Z-A. When viewing by Name, the OP wants A-Z. I don't see
any solution other than it's something you have to get used to.

Thanks for the responses. It's bizarre if that's the way it has to be and I have to get used to it. Pretty much every other email program I've ever used sorts 'From' alphabetically from A-Z first, and Received chronologically Newest-oldest by default, right?
