Maintenance?

S

Sam Bays

I have segregated my PERSONAL email from WORK related items by setting up a
rule that routes Personal items received via one POP account into a
PERSONAL folder and allowing all other mail items to be collected in the
Inbox, except for a handful of daily messages sent to me by several
subscriptions, which are allocated to appropriate folders via Mail List
Manager actions.

This system has worked very well for over a year. After I reply to a
work-related item, I delete it altogether. Once a week or so I sort and file
the SENT items into Work-related sub folders organized either by people with
whom I have had exchanges or salient topics when several us us are
conversing on the same topic. If no reply is made, I can sort messages
directly from the Inbox.

Similarly, for PERSONAL mail, I sort periodically either directly from the
PERSONAL folder or from the Sent Items folder into a handful of categories I
find useful.

Last week, some incoming messages began to turn up in the wrong locations,
so I decided to repair and backup, imagining this would clear up the
anomaly. No such luck. After the repair, many but not all messages, both
personal and work-related, are routed upon download from the server to one
of the Mailing List Manager folders, notwithstanding they should not be
affected by the MLM instructions.

How do I clean up the spurious actions? Should I delete my MLM rules, run
repair again, then restore the rules? Should I winnow out old mail messages
stored within the application? (Some date back to 2002.)

Regards,

Sam Bays
