Make icons for Word, Excel, Visio, PPT etc. more distinguished.

Icons for Office documents share almost the same main body and have only
visible difference in them at top left corner when application type shown (W
for Word, X for Excel etc). Unfortunately, many type share the same color of
these glyphs (Word and Visio are blue, Excel & Project are green). That makes
them extremely difficult to recognize in folder where they have small size.

Suggestion: use different colors for different document types (for example
make color Visio glyph Maroon).

Sounds more like you need to adjust your monitor settings so the
differences become apparent.
